2. Don't have every track have the groove at the same
spot, in DTR it was low, in DTR2 it's high, variety is better
3. The cars are too fast in DTR2, and tire wear is not
enough of a factor
4. Make bleedable tires work
5. Chassis is too rigid in DTR2
6. Allow dedicated server mode |

I would like to see my favorite track Brownstown Speedway included.
Real skins like The Real Deal Don Oneal. I would like to see
yellow flags for spins. The yellows should simulate a real yellow
with full caution laps, restarts, and backstrech restarts. Starting
from the line up shoot would be great. You should be able to
turn the caution auto pilot on and off. There should be a single
night mode with heat and features. You should have a full weekend
event with features like a Saturday Night Special. Real events
should be included like the World 100. The real divers should
have built in skill levels so that someone like Moyer would
be faster than a less skilled driver no matter where Moyer starts.
This way the it will like racing against real drivers and not
skins with random ai. I will be very disapointed if Brownstown,
In is on the game. It is 50 year old track that is the most
popular of the area. And yes it is more popular than Bloomington.
It's the home town track of C.J. Rayburn, Steve Barnett, and
Don Oneal. |

As A member of the DTR community since it came back, and a long
time fan of Dirt racing in general, I could make a ton of a
suggestions, but I will limit them to the most important.
My number one suggestion and probably what everyone wants
to hear is a better mutliplayer engine. I love the mutliplayer
aspect of DTR and DTRSC plus DTR2, but the online lag and
warp has gotten a little to annoying for me. As an accomplished
online racer, I feel that with a better mutliplayer engine
it would inturn give more fun to the simulation of the game,
and also it would probably sell you some more copies of the
game. I think the 2nd thing people look at when buying a game
is if the multiplayer is any good or not, after they look
at the title.
Second, I think the game engine should be re-vamped. Yes
the DE2/DE3 seems a little out of date. The original dtr was
on the DE2 engine, and DTR2 seems just like an updated version.
Don't get me wrong, I like the game its just a new game using
old features. I would love to see a Dirt Racing game come
out with the smoothness, and quality of a racing title such
as Nascar Racing 2002, etc. etc.
Third, Damage is something that is a big part of Dirt Racing.
If you have ever seen a sprint car crash, the wheels don't
stay attached, and the wing doesn't just bend. Yet, you have
pieces flying aprart wings crushing, and tearing apart. You
also have tons of dirt and dust fly everywhere. I know this
would bring a whole new addition of realism to the game. Same
thing goes with latemodels, except for the wing crushing.
I would like to see more body damage. Especially quarter panels
flapping coming in and out of turns. Rather then just dents
in the body panels.

1. Would like to see multi groove tracks, and a noticable
cusion. If you hit a cusion in a real car you know it. Also
make the track condition change over the course of the race,
not just the event. The track should dry out as the race progresses
and the groves may change.
2. Realistic car physics, not just ones that show up
in the replay either. If you lift the left front or there is
body roll give the feel of it while in the cockpit.
3. Many of the numbers in the setup are unrealistic,
ie. spring and shock rates, car weights.
3a. Setups should be different for different classes
of cars. The ideas are the same but numbers are different. Make
sense?
4. Let the driver control the car under yellow flags,
and restart at the start/finish line.
5. Flat tires, blown engines, oil on the track, random
breakdowns.
6. The weight of the car should change as the race wears
on, used fuel, added mud to the car etc.
7. Rules infractions: let the player adjust the weight
of the car and amount of fuel in it. If at the end of the race
the player is below a limit dq him.
8. Realistic damage, wrecks etc.
9. More real tracks from IMCA, Xtreme, UMP, DIRT, etc.
10. 24 car fields in the a-mains. |

Well , another thing I just thought of that would be realy neat
( but totaly unesesairy for racing ) is if you had to drive
out of the pits where you parked your rig for the nite . Kind
of liek any local track , you hear them announce "last
call for hot laps " , "Street Stocks , get lined up
for qualifying" and then theres a line of cars waiting
at he pit gat to go line up for thier run at setting thier fast
lap , ect. And on the same note have to drive back into the
pits after you qualify , the pit gate opens and you have to
get off the track for the next qualifier to run . Liek I said
, totaly unnesesairy , but would add to the feal of the local
track realism. |

I drive a sprint car myself, and the first thing I would like
to see in the game, is more than one racing groove. Everyone
knows that on a dirt track, most of the time if the track is
prepped right, there are a lot of different lines for different
setups. The second thing is the incar view. When you slide through
the turns, you aren't looking straight in front of you, you
are looking to the left a little bit so you can see where you
are going. Maybe have a camera that somehow rotates to the left
a little bit when you are sliding. |

First of all, thank you for the 4 great games that you have
released so far. I have enjoyed all of them.
Interface: Lose the "sliders" in the setup
screen. They would be ok if the arrows on each end could be
clicked to change a setting up or down (depending on which
end you click). This is one of the most furstrating aspects
of your games.
Interface, part 2: Give us the ability to tweek our
setting whithout having to back all the way out of a game.
A button that leads us to graphics, sound, and imput screens,
after you join a server, or during a carrer mode race, would
be most helpful. Like on the setup screen, have a button that
lets you at the game setup options.
Yellow flags: Would like it to be more realistic. Cruise
control is ok (though I would rather control my car at all
times), but line back up and restart at the flag stand, not
when ever the count down returns to zero.
Multiplayer: Implement yellow flags for multi-player.
Have the host (or league admin) designate how they will be
implemented. Do them like a normal Saturday night dirt track
does in the states.
Multiplayer, part 2: Try for bigger fields on-line.
Would be cool if you could get 24 player in one race. Any
more and it would be unrealistic.
Multiplayer, part 3: Add a feature that scans for custom
skins and asks, while in multi-player if you want to download
the skins of your competitors. A lot of people take great
pride in their custom painted skins, and it would be great
to race against them, without having to arrange ahead of time
to download them.
Quick Race: Give us the option to choose our starting
position. After a couple of weeks, I can usually beat the
AI at 100% fairly easily. It would be nice to force my self
to start in the back and see if I can make a charge to the
front in like say, 10 or 15 laps.
Career mode: Have a local Saturday night racer mode.
Let us pick a track and race that as our home track weekly,
against the same guys. Give points and money for each race.
Most racing on dirt in the states is done by locals, running
at their home track. Only the "Big Dogs" travel.
The vast majority stay at the same track all year. In other
words, have a challenge to be the track champion, at one track.
Input devices: Make your games support multiple imput
sources. i.e., a wheel from company a, mated with pedals from
company b, and a shifter from company c. If windows will recognize
and calibrate all of them, you games should also. I don't
have such a setup, but am considering buying a trick set of
pedal, but keeping my wheel. I understand that I couldn't
use the new pedals in DTR, et al, they way it is coded now.
Editing: I understand you don't want to lose the horses
by opening the barn doors, but the ease by which a game can
be edited by the mod community adds greatly to the logevity
of a title. Make it easier to tweek cars and tracks. You will
never produce a game that has exactly the cars and tracks
that everyone wants. But you can get close and let those that
want something a bit different, produce that themselves.
Well, that is all I can think of. The most important thing
is to make it League and multi-player friendly. That is where
the real replay vaule comes in, the multi-player aspects of
the game. Again, thank you for producing such great games.
Please, though there are things I would like to see done different,
I still love the whole Ratbag catalog of PC racing games.
And recommend them to all my sim racing friends. (and real
dirt track race car drivers as well).

First of all I would like to say thanks for the opportunity
of being ask to provide input. To qualify some of my suggestions
I must tell you I am an older man, above 50, I was born in the
40's and became interested in racing as a young teenager. This
was back when the cars were made from junk yard parts starting
with the 32 coups and sedans going up to the late 40's. Many
of the cars were run as open wheel with the fenders removed
and many with the fenders, it was a matter of choice. Many ran
with no hood while others did. This was the period before the
high priced equpment, just the stock items that you could get
through the mid 60's. It took a racers imagination to run fast
such as carb selection, weight placement, head selection and
modification and the diffrent sizes of stock tires and pressures.
I think a lot of the older men and maybe some women would become
more interested in the games with a nostalgic look. With this
said, my suggestions would be:
1. To bring out some of the older coups and sedans,
use the stock style engines for the pre 70's era and only
slight mods possible such as heads, exhausts, size of tires
extc.
2. As others haave stated, more realistic yellow flags
with restarts thrown green coming out of turn four after gathering
all the cars back together.
3. More realistic ai cars causing and having wrecks.
4. Flat tires and blown engines.
5. Also when an engine blows, some times place oil
on track as happens in real time.
6. Black flagging Ai or players cars that are severely
damaged and are a danger to other cars still racing.
7. Set the game up so that banking on the tracks maybe
adjusted.
8. Several more tracks available and a series editer
and as some have suggested, a track editor would be nice.
9. There are many more things that could be done to
improve the games, but then just as I said, they are nothing
more than games to us but they are a business to your organization.

1. You don't drive to the line on the start. The line
is for the finish. Maybe you could try letting the pace car
set the pace, including the human driver if possible.
2. You don't start a caution where ever. I'd like to
see you do restarts and cautions in the same manner as a start.
See above.
3. Clean up your games. What I mean is for example, at
Williams Grove in DTR2, there is like an invisible wall sticking
out of the track at the pit entrance gate on the back straight.
If you hit this wall you're car has went to junk and if it's
a close race might as well take and ram your car into others
or restart. Along the same lines you design these cars like
feathers. You hit one tire on the apron and you have just launched
yourself. Real race vehicles don't do this.
3a. I seen someone else post this and it's a cool physics
thing. But seeing a car three wheel, or pull a wheel stand is
a crowd pleasing thing.
4. I keep seeing the same tracks. They have come a long
way from DTR, especially Eagle. Include other popular tracks
from around the nation. I'd like to say I'm from Nebraska and
most people around here know of Beatrice, NE as probably one
of the toughest race for a driver and best shows for a modified
race. Other tracks are I-80 or now known as Nebraska Raceway
Park (NRP). Belleville, KS. If you run IMCA, you know of the
Super Nationals at Boone, Iowa. Other mentionable tracks from
the area are I-55, I-70, and Lakeside speedways.
5. Now most fans know there is more than just one type
of chassis and they all look different in their frames and bodies.
Modified--Hot Chassis, Harris, Jet Mod, Dirt Works. Sprint cars-Eagle,
Stealth, Johnson, Maxim. Late models, Stocks, everything in
racing have different frames and different skins.
6. Now Cole, Tires are what wins a race."
Might be hard to do, but a little difference in a tire selection
just for looks would be fine with me. American Racer, Hoosier,
Goodyear, McCreary.
7. Personally, I'm not the greatest at painting in Paintshop
Pro, but I've gotten better so I don't mind using it. But having
a little assistance or shadowing layering something to make
the car look real helps.
8. No more figure 8 races. |

2. Put in some high bank tracks in the game. |

I would love to see some vintage modifieds, street stocks and
some tracks that no longer exist (like the reading fairgrounds).
As far as street stocks maybe a 57 chevy, 66 chevelle and a
56 ford. Modifieds maybe some 70's coupe and coach bodies and
some vegas, pintos and gremlins. I know most people probably
wouldn't be interested in a whole game of vintage cars and tracks
but possibly something that could be unlocked after a certain
amount of progress could be cool.
I know this doesn't really pertain to a dtr3 sim but while
we have your attention how about a wish list for the next
dtrsc? I would like to see a game angled more at USAC with
midgets, sprint and silver crown cars. Possibly some vintage
champ cars and midgets with ascot, langhorne and maybe a board
track or 2. How about some real small tight tracks and some
270cc micro sprints and 600 cc mini sprints? Just my 2 cents.
Thanks for asking us what we would like to see in a game
instead of telling us what we want, maybe if more companies
did this we would have had a dirt sim a long time ago.

I would want a Sprint/Midget/Silver Crown game of some sort.
Real tracks, drivers, and AI. A lot of tracks and drivers to
keep us interested for a long time. Have the races as realistic
as possible as far as tire wear and tracks conditions. It would
be nice to have it a USAC game. If USAC isn't interested just
do it alone. As long as it has variety and is realistic, it
will do well! A better/easier paintshop is a plus!

I beleive that the Dirt Track Racing 3 game should have many
new things. For example I think the game should have Tracks
all over America. Tracks from the midwest and all over. The
midwest is like the home to all dirt racing. I also beleive
that the game should have better series, like the udtra, ump
summer nationals, and usmts. They should also have late models,
ump modifieds, street stock, sportsman, and hobby stock. They
should have a better painting program on the game as well. They
should also have a handfull of drivers form the sreies cars
on the game. The tracks should range from a little bullring
to a 1-mile track like Springfield or DuQuoin. Everone likes
banking so a track like Belleville would be needed. The pits
should be open so you mess around in them. There also should
be glitches in the game like special buildings or tunnels.
Thank you for letting me voice my opinion on the next dirt track
racing game. |

1) More than 16 cars per race. Give us the abilty to
set the limit...and give us the abilty to vary it from track
to track.
2) A schedule editor so you could have Friday and Saturday
night shows.
3) More short tracks. Especialy tracks from the southern
United States. Florida, Alabama, Tennesse, Georgia, etc.
4) Give us the ability to change the event format. (example
: Straight up qualifying...No heats.)
5) More realistic cars... especialy the stockers.
6) Make car damage apply to the AI cars as well as the
players.
7) Make the tracks a realistic size so that the selected
cars would run a realistic time. It is quite funny that a 500hp
camaro can run under 15 second laps on a 1/2 mile track when
in reality a latemodel dont even come close to that. Adopt some
kind of standard concernining track demensions.
8) Give us some variety in how a car handles. In reality,
a Rayburn chassis handles alot differently than a Rocket or
GRT. Especialy if the have different rear suspensions. (Bar
or swingarm)
9) Make us run the lower divisions first in carrer mode.
Like something simalar to what you guys done in DTRSC. You couldn't
just start out in the WoO series.
10) Please take all of these suggestions into consideration.
You guys could make one "KILLER" pc game. You are
finding out what folks want, use this information. |

Some suggestions for DTR3. Since I don't race online, my suggestions
are for making offline gameplay better.
1. In quickrace mode, how about the ability to configure
the racing to be a race night, ie run time trials, qualifying
races and feature (if you qualify) rather than just a single
featue race. I don't enjoy running a series, dealing with
the money and such, but love to run qualifying events to try
to make the feature race.
2. Again in quickrace mode, the ability to race against
a full 24 car field rather then the 16 now possible.
3. Improved AI to include the AI cars having the ability
to crash and bring out the caution flag. Currently the only
track you ever see a caution flag at is Williams Grove and
that is only because of a glitch that makes the wall near
the crossover gate"stick out" further than it looks
thereby crashing cars running the high groove.
4. More tracks, particularly shorter tracks, quarter
miles and such. Also a straightforward way to edit, change
and create new tracks. There are plenty of wonderfully creative
and computer savvy people who make add-ons and mods for the
DTR games. (Unfortunately I'm not one of them). By allowing
those folks to do their thing more easily, interest in the
game will remain high.
5. Get rid of the silly figure 8 tracks, they suck
IMHO
6. How about some ruts and holes scattered around the
track, just like a real dirt track.
7. Breakdowns and flat tires, forcing pit stops.
8. Get rid of the Pro Stocks. I think a game consisting
of DIRT Modifieds, IMCA Modifieds, Late Models, and Wingless
Sprints would be awesome.

- Practice, Qualify, Heats, Dash if you make it, C or B Main
if you don't and the A Main.
2. Minimum of 24 cars in the A Main.
3. Pick the Entries - Instead of having a random mix
of default cars in with the excellent addon cars that will probably
be generated, create personal entry lists of cars you want to
run against in the single player mode.
4. Either the ability to delete from the game the oddly
named default cars, or a way to rename them so they make sense. |

I would like to see some type of variety in cars, such as a
Midget, USAC type cars, 360 Sprints, ect. I would also like
to see better multiplayer support. For the most part, the size
of compitition (10 cars) is too low. We could handle about 16
I believe ( on larger tracks anyway) . I also feel that more
realitic track characteristics will make for a great addition.
The track on DTR and DTRSC are generally plain, 1 grooved race
tracks. The Multiplayer section also needs some type of moderation.
IE- A person able to sit in and watch the races with the ability
to boot player (for rough driving) restart races when needed
and to know what is going on in general. i also feel that a
paint shop would be great. Most of us use custom paints, but
I for one get alot of requests to paint them, which takes alot
of time. With a paint shop, people could still do it themselves.
Beter series would also be a plus, Have a local track series,
a small traveling series, and then the big series (UDTRA, WoO,
All-Stars, ect.). Why not have big big evens throughout a season,
( Chili Bowl, King's Royal, Knox. Nats, ect.) No more easy races,
make AI experience equivlant to what Papy does with Nascar games. |

It has all boiles down to this, we the consumers want a dirt
game that is as realistic as you can make it. but here is my
wish list.
1. Better multiplayer: we need less lag and warp and
more than 10 cars in a server 15 would prob be a good number.
2. Multigroove tracks: the way ratbag games are set up
now there is only one fast line around the track its almost
like follow the leader. It would be kind of nice to be able
to run side by side and turn about equal times low or high.
rutts and bumps that form as the race goes on would be nice
to.
3. Realistic handling and graphics, I thought the world
of outlaws game for PS2 was pretty good in these catagories,
but the PC games needed some improvements.
4. More competitive AI
5. More tracks or atleast a track creator so we can create
our own. and maybe even a paintshop so we can paint skins. |

I tested DTR and gave a lot of feedback. One of my biggest complaints
was when you drive from the in-car view. when you are in a slide
your view is still looking straight out the center of the winshield.
In real racing your head would be turned and you would be looking
out over the right front tire or somewhere in that direction.
Maybe even out the right side window opening (Well maybe if
we were running non wing sprints) I just think the in-car view
would be much more realistic and easier to drive if the car
was to turn under you in the slide and you were always looking
straight in the direction of your motion and not the direction
of the nose of the car. I dont know if you understand exactly
what I am trying to say but anyone that drives a race car would
know. |

1. DTR3 should have a realistic racing atmosphere for
dirt racing. And they've achieved most of it with DTR2, but,
the lack of cautions in the career mode makes it very boring.
The AI cars should have a degree of spin-outs, wall banging,
fender rubbing, blown motors(that drop oil on the track) and
some negitive behavior, like a local bad boy that would rather
put a fender or bumper on you than make a clean pass. Also there
should be some big wrecks(involving 3 to 5 cars) every now and
then. There should also be an instance of cars dropping parts
on the track in the heat of battle, not to mention unpredictable
"FLAT TIRES" that just about everybody experiences,
slowing the car dramatically and bringing the handling to near
impossible.
2. Race starts might be more interesting with the
field getting the green as they come out of turn 4. Throw
in an instance of "black flags" for rough driving,
or smoking motors, and you might have something here!
3. A more realistic looking "Pro stock"
would be a welcomed addition to this game. Monte Carlo and
Malibu, and throw in a Buick Regal, and Thunderbird, and you've
got IMCA.
4. More short tracks with good banking 15 degrees
and more "Famous" ones like Boone, would be great!
5. Thanks for the opportunity to let us give you
a little feed-back, it will help all of us to be a part of
the next edition of DTR and it will be a great game!

A bit off subject, but I'd love to see them do a (motorcycle)
speedway version. With just some adjustments to the current
physics modelling it should be possible. Be great if they also
based the game on one or some of the leagues, British, Polish
or Swedish. Just imagine the excitement of racing, with the
depth of a team sport - do you go flat out for the win or risk
slowing the race to help your teamate?
With the poor efforts at simulating speedway seen so far,
I'm sure Ratbag could produce something truly classic.

Well , since I have yet to figure out how you all do custome
skins I would find it realy nice if you had it set up something
like the game IL2 Sturmovik. Everything can be accesed extreamly
easily, there is a folder labeled "skins" with a seprate
folder for each plane and version of the plane you can reskin
with. All skins are saved in a .bmp format and are easily painted
with even the basic windows paint ( though I use paintshop pro
myself ) . Plus that way is a lot easier than the DOS prompt
thingy you all use now that I can never get to work and Windows
XP is all but void of any dos anything that is easy to mess
with . One reason I suggest this is it will be a lot easier
for me to skin the cars and it will be a lot less likely for
there to be a rampent amout of overly modded cars that perform
way outside of acceptable limits (as in a bunch of cheaters
altering car performance stats). Oh well , since I am probobly
the only one that sucks with the way you all do skins now ,
I wont hold my breth for this one. |

1. A better yellow flag system to include:
a) more yellow flags than we currently get with DTR2
which is slim to none.
b) a yellow flag WITHOUT losing an AI car. Right now
the only way to get a yellow is to have an AI car get totaled
out. Since they have made the AI more likely to avoid wrecks
we have lost a lot of the yellows we had in DTR1. If we could
get a yellow flag for either a player or AI spinout that would
be great. Now if its either or I'll take the lack of yellows
over going back to AI that try and run thru each other and the
player.
c) have the green flag start at the start/finish line
instead some random spoint each time.
2. I would love to see fuel usage and its weight
become part of the game. Wouldn't be cool to run the advantage
of lower fuel levels only to run out of gas because of a lot
of yellow flags? I think so
3. More tracks under 1/2 mile. Around me anyway the
there are alot more 1/4 and 3/8 mile tracks than 1/2 mile
ones. IMO the smaller tracks take more skill to drive than
the stab and steer high banked big tracks. AI'd also like
to see bumpier tracks as well. And if the bumps could move
that would be killer.
4. More competive AI. This is a two fold request.
Not only faster AI, but when it comes to the career mode spread
the wins around between more than just a few AI. Right now
if the player dosen't finish top three in every race they
really don't have much of a chance at the championship. I
don't want it so all you have to do is finish top ten every
race to win the championship, but 1 top ten shouldn't kill
you either.
5. More AI cars in a race. I'd love to see 20-24 cars
or even better 26. I'd also like it setup so that with max
car count you still have a chance of missing the features.
Right now I think you have to drop down to 12 cars to have
that happen. I'm not sure how othere areas are, but around
here we don't have C and D mains either. We might have 2 B
mains on nights with large car counts. Typical format is top
4 or 5 from 4 heats (16-20 cars) and then the rest of the
feature filled in from the b main (4-6 cars). If there is
two b mains than its half from each.
6. For quick races I'd like to have the game start
you in the back half of the field instead of the top half.
Starting up front makes it to easy to win. Even if the random
draw was from 2-last instead of 2-6th that would be cool too.
7. Track editor, or at the very least put an end to
this DE2 editor stuff. I think it should be clear to Ratbag
that the DE2 editor is a plus for the game not a minus. I'm
sure they have heard it all before so I won't bore them with
going thru it again. Even just an offical "we don't care
anymore. go ahead and release it" statement would be
great.
8. AI in multiplayer. That way just a couple guys
could run against a full field of cars.

I believe Dirt Track Racing 3 should have a tie to USAC. Non-
wing midgets, sprint cars and Silver Crown cars on dirt of course.
The handling characteristics would be very similar to the cars
in DTR2, but they would excelerate faster. I like the fact you
have to actually "drive" the cars in DTR2 rather than
just flat foot them around the track. Plus, a driver could be
punished for over-driving the car.
You could have tracks ranging from a 1/5 (i.e. Chilli Bowl)
and 1/4 miles for the midgets, 3/8 to 1/2 miles for the sprints,
and mile tracks for the Silver Crown cars. Yeah, the Chilli
Bowl isn't a USAC event, but it would be cool.
Finally, how about a vintage game. Something similar to Grand
Prix Legends. You could revert back to the 60s when lengendary
drivers like: AJ Foyt, Mario Andretti, Panelli Jones Al &
Bobby Unser Unser and Johnny Rutherford were hustling open
wheel cars on dirt. Just a thought. Thanks for the opportunity.
