With a huge amount of thanks to black f. I am thrilled to announce that http://www.bobstrackbuilder.net will be supporting the creation of tracks for Richard Burns Rally.

Never did I imagine it possible but remarkably with just a few hours effort on my behalf under the instruction of black f. we've been able to produce a beta test track in RBR.

The RBR plug-in required will be freely available to everyone that wants it. Any track made with BTB can be used by anyone should they want, regardless of if they have BTB or not.

It is my product, Bobs Track Builder, that I am selling and all funds raised go towards spending more time developing the code instead of working my regular job.

It'll be some time yet before we iron out the issues and create an easy to use interface ... but hey ... I can't stop smiling because this is a dream come true!!

edit: Only road and walls so far are modelled.

No trees or houses are supported either at this stage. Trees will likely come in 2-3 months.

Houses or anything more complex in shape will best be created in another application, BTB will eventually have an import capability whereby you can load and position (but not edit) your own 3d Max / Direct X objects ... but that's along way off.

Tried out the current BTB version yesterday and have to say: The user interface looks really convincing. Haven't tried more of it, but indeed looking forward to a RBR-enabled version. Exellent news, so...

Congratulation guys!

This is unbelievable... How fast can unimaginable things happen... Two days ago I didn`t even know BTB, and at the moment I hear it`s going to support RBR... I am completly speechless...

I`m really greatfull to everyone for making this reality, not only words. Thank you Smile.

Hi, I want you to clarify us if BTB is just a kind of tentative or it will support RBR entirely ??! Anyway, it's a great step forward and always good to hear news like that. If so, It would be nice to create bumps easily using vertex etc.. and add features to support and include all objects from RBR like trees, fences. Don't know if people remember the track editor from the old game named Soda Off-Road. I remember it was very easy to build track using it ... a little like the Rollercoaster tycoon 3 editor. Anyway guys this is very astonishing and promising news !! Shocked Shocked I just can't believe it. You've made it. Congratulation !!!! Wink

Yep, start shaping. You may want/need to update the textures again but the surface shape will remain compatible. Wink

I've driven on the track and know it will be possible for everyone to make them in the future. A lot of this proof of concept involed editing text files and making manual adjustments in order for the track to load. I now need to alter BTB to support the automation of these files and do it ni such fashion so that any track you build in BTB can be used for multiple games.

You can already create a dip or bump by creating 3 cross-sections close to each other, checking them all to set the shape, then changing the middle one by moving the vertices up or down. BTB doesn't offer control over any single point in the mesh; yuo just set the spline and the cross-sections and BTB calculates the rest. There's a very good reason for this. Any track you create in BTB will be future proof. As PC develop into faster beasts, you can re-release your track with an increased level of detail (polygons) just by changing a few values and adding a few new vertices to the cross-section.

Haven't played Soda Off-Road but it looks neat and is available for download. Will try it out later tonight.
