Foreshadow of the upcoming racing title GT LEGENDS – as of today, the official product website is online
Darmstadt, May 3rd, 2005: GT LEGENDS is the name of the new racing simulation manufactured by 10TACLE, which takes us back to the early stages of the touring car races of the 60s and 70s. Created by the Simbin development team, the makers of "GTR - FIA GT Racing Game", this racing title not only guarantees the extremely precise representation of all the cars and routes, but also offers a number of highlights for breathtaking duels on international race tracks, such as the career mode, the new graphic engine and the enhanced list of features.
Consistently updated information on the historic racing simulation can be accessed with immediate effect at WWW.GT-LEGENDS.COM. Besides screenshots and wallpapers, the first animated images will be available for download here in the course of the next months, as well as a demo version for test driving purposes. So it's worth your while checking it out every so often! Furthermore, the newsletter section of the website provides all racing fans with direct information and the opportunity to win a surprise gift in our monthly raffle. You can be sure to obtain all the information that might be of interest to you.

If I was SIMBIN and I wanted to make a quick buck, I would modify the physics of GTR create some new car models and market it as a new simulation racing historic cars on modern track....... Now SIMBIN haven't done this with GTL - HAVE THEY? |

Unfortunately, GT Legends just doesn't excite me. There doesn't seem to be anything about it that says to me "I gotta have it".

Oh, sweet!
Those cars of the early 70's are my favourite ones.
Haven't tried GTR out, so i don't know if Simbin are good at racingsims? But with thiese cars involved, i just can't hop this game.
About the screens, hope the cars will look a little less cartoonish when the game is done. And if they doun't, the physics and sound must be spot on to make the game desireable! |

| There's nothing wrong with the choice of machinery, it's just the fact that it's a simulation of a modern historic championship, doesn't make any sense? Other than a quick way of getting round rebuilding tracks, and if they can't be bothered to re-make tracks why would they bother with the physics? |

Holy crappiness !!
| Quote: |
Over 90 of the most desirable classic racing cars from the 60s and 70s. Recreated with a perfectionist eye by automotive and motor sports experts.
|
In my book
the most anticipated racing sim in 2005!
Can you get any closer to racing these classic cars without actually racing them? Imagine the
detailed interiors
of 90 classic cars using TrackIR Pro + vector expansion, surround sound and perhaps even 3D-glasses. True virtual reality in the making
I wish SimBin the best of luck! |

| If this is the modern-day tracks of the current championships, instead of recreations of the original tracks of that era, Simbin just lost my interest. |

GTL is a simlation of this series...
http://www.fia-historic-racing.com/
They drive historic race cars on modern tracks.... Though I don't see any reason why track builders can't recreate the historic versions of the tracks as well... As much as I love the old Zandy track from GPL its not a killer to me that we are racing on modern tracks.. Its all about the car and the competition for me....
I wonder what kinda money Papy/Sierra had to shell out to get the rights to create those tracks in GPL... I know The Ring its like 180k USD to license..

Here is the real car, the texture looks pretty spot on to me...

Nice comparison cobracat8!!
real life
GTL
Seems pretty good to my eyes too. Perhaps the GTL pic is a little over-saturated (? see yellow sticker on car ?) and the shadow could be a little darker. These textures/shading will detract from my game play experience. |

Biggest sticking point against GTL is, IMO, ...
...GTR.
Specifically: the reported "sporadic" workability of the multiplayer mode (and the complete lack of (promised) dedicated server support).
Without those two things, I don't see a way in which ANY version of graphics, car modeling, car offerings, track offerings, or series offerings...
...matters in the least.
Sorry.
But as much as I would like to buy this product (Note: I bought SIXTEEN copies of GPL, and 3 copies of N2K3, so I'm not exactly cheap...).
...my own money is (at least for the moment)...still stuck firmly in my wallet.
----
Moral, Simbin: Look CAREFULLY at what's already been offered to the sim-racing community--ie. look carefully at "GPL/VROC." If you purport to take the heart and soul of that community over for yourselves...
...you MUST, at a minimum, go it one one better--you must at LEAST offer WHAT IT OFFERS...(at a BARE minimum--and even going one better may still not be enough...).
This is where, at least in my mind, GTR has...thusfar...failed.
And so GTL has (for my money) a steep uphill climb too.
----
SIMBIN: BE PROFESSIONAL ABOUT IT. DON'T PRETEND YOUR COMPLAINANTS DON'T EXIST (they DO exist, and their complaints are very real, even if only to them...).
Address those complaints. Ande be aware that there are those of us out here who are WATCHING...to see how you manage it. We (third parties) will still see...if you don't.

GTL is based on the rFactor engine and should benefit from that title's improved on-line code. I appreciate this doesn't help those who bought GTR but comparisons with GTR are not really appropriate.
I think most of us would prefer the old series on the old tracks but we have to be realistic about licensing. I'm guessing GTL can get all its licensing from one source, and hopefully for a sensible cost - historic racing doesn't have quite the commercial pull of F1 for example, whatever we might think of F1 racing. For GPL Papy had to approach each car manufacturer, each driver and each track individually and failed to obtain (or couldn't afford) permission in a number of cases (Honda, Cooper and Jackie Stewart).
So if the choice is GTL or nothing - I'll take GTL every time
I'm hoping add-on tracks will supply the old tracks. I know SIMBIN haven't encourage GTR mods but add-on tracks do exist.
I'm looking forward to this title very much. |
