I can confirm setting back the acceleration to basic in dxdiag helps a lot.

I have the Hercules Fortissimo III 7.1

When I was looking in 3rd person or replay the frames dopped to 10.
Also I got some sudden stutters at times. And when driving on tarmac frames dropped to 10 as well.
What I also got was some clicking/popping sounds.

Since I changed it back to Basic everything was allright.
100+ frames and good sound. In all views, on all surfaces.

May want to try this to see if it helps. I'm using a PCI Express system and have no sound problems using RealTek on-board sound.

http://www.driverheaven.net/showthread.php?t=51186

I'd be interested if this helps.

Andi.

Bug Report for Richard Burns Rally

#1 EAX is remaining active after shutting game down.
Example: TV card is is now using EAX eventhough EAX is shut off. EAX control panel ends up disabled and crashes, Requires reboot to access EAX control panel.

#2 Wheel turning, fire, steam, engine smoke, not seen in replay. Doors fall off but dissappear. Headlights stay on after total front end crash.

#3 Sound pops and crackles, Partial fix by using v4 of the eax.dll. (It's better but not 100%) The game default uses V3 eax.dll

#4 AA and AF when used is corrupting the graphics.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Althon XP 2800@2.27ghz
WinXp Pro SP2
Directx 9c
Asus A7n8x-x Nforce chipset v4.27
Sound Blaster Audigy 2. Latest drivers.
GeforceFX 5900 Gainward Golden Sample 256 meg ultra. 61.77 Nvidia drivers.
Red Leather Logitech MOMO wheel.
Act-Labs USB shifter.
40-45 FPS@ 1280x1024x32

Suggestion for next patch, all of the above plus, I'd like to see the helicopter view moved back a little to show more of the terrain to provide the viewer with a better sense of the speed as the close up shots take away this nice effect.
Online play is a must. Please make it happen. Out source it if you have to.

Outstanding game. By far the best Rally sim to date. RBR has put CMR in it's place for good, dead last. Way to go SCI, great job.

As per a few posts ive just sorted out my horrid frame rate drop to the point of switching it on/off at will.

I took advice from a few posts about setting hardware exceleration down to "simple" in "control panel -> sound" & like magic frame rates are flawless! Im shocked, ive ben playing around for a while and never even thought to look at the sound side of things to effect the fps!.

I have audigy 2 by the way & ATI 9800pro. This actualy sorted out my very first post about fps problems (the day i got the game). Basicly in stage 1 of training if my car was in the middle of open area - fps would slow right down, as soon as it got to either end it would suddenly switch back to form again to smooth fps 9as a result replays were horribly bad fps). I thought it was reflection on tarmac slowing things down. I then found out that if I switched pc on from cold boot, and started RBR (before loading anything else) it would actualy run spot on (minus a few jitters on replay). Then if I quitted out, did nothing else & just re loaded the game .. the fps would be poor from there on-in. So, cold boot - repeat process, same result every time without fail.

Turning hardware acceleration down to "simple" has solved this completely. I feel (and excuse me not being quick off the mark to try what others have said about this) that YES is realy does seem to be sound related to FPS. Of course many others will be things like PC tidy ups / drivers but maaan, this amazed me to think the sound is directly effecting fps.

Also i would like to know about that "eax.dll" patch or whatever it is/where it is, & specifics and whats been hacked in it to work better.

its madness! total madness!

hehehe, well im judt glad to get to a stage of being abl to control whats the problem than hit & miss tweaks I tried before, thank god for that.

Deffo needs a good rework & patch for sound code on the game, but im guessing SCI know this by now anywho.

My sound was ok a bit clicky, I hit eax on & things wnet realy ba & even worse after i turned it off.

I could have reinstalled but had a poke around in the rbr folder.

The file RichardBurnsRally.ini has all the main settings & set mine software & I think the real prob for me was CubicEnvironment thing, I guess a sofware eax type witch maybe gets in a mess & does also feel tied to Vid or bus usage.

I set mine like this now

Sound = true
UseCubicEnvironmentMaps = false
UseEAX = false
UseSoftwareAudio = true

Using GameTheaterXP sound card & all seems ok now, but could be better.

I have a Hercules Game Theatre XP and the only sound problem I have is on the France (tarmac) stages. It sound is echoing non-stop..sounds like it's looping. Only does it for those stages though, everywhere else is fine.

Skip all my last post the changes just happen as I edited the file & have been bad & back since, I getting the echo at radom times on any track/suface, like eax on heavy echo.

ill try setting my sound to basic level but dont like that as it will effect all games & all other are fine.
