Danica: The rumors are true!

Apparently all of those "Danica to NASCAR" rumors are true, and she is seriously considering making a jump to NASCAR for the 2010 season. The rumors were confirmed by...

...Danica Patrick.

Over at Jayski she is quoted by the Vallejo Times Herald as saying "The NASCAR rumors are true. We're definitely exploring all the opportunities that are out there for me as a driver and as a business and a brand."

Sooooooo, where would that put her knowing what we know now?

Earnhardt/Ganassi in the #1 Bass Pro Shop ride?

Could she go to Hendrick and take over the #24 DuPont Chevy assuming that Jeff Gordon has to retire because of his back?

Could she be the one driver that Dale Jr. would need to attract sponsors to a car that he could move his team up to Sprint Cup?

Could Tony Stewart change his mind and create a third team for 2010 at Stewart/Haas?

The answers to these and other questions will be answered in the continuing saga of...

As the Wheel Turns.

If Jeff retires Keselowski will more then likely take over the 24 ride.

And ive said it once and ill say it again Danica will be foolish to make the jump straight to Cup. Run a couple years in the Nationwide Series but try and qualify for 7-10 cup races. The COT is nothing like an Indy car.

And now, another episode of...

As the Wheel Turns

When last we left our heoine, she was contemplating a jump to NASCAR, while still fielding offers from other IRL teams. And now to our story...

Danica remaining in the IRL

It looks as though Danica will be staying in the IRL after all since she all but confirmed it on Saturday. It turns out one of the resons she was considering a jump was the ownership situation at Andretti-Green. However, Thursday Micheal Andretti confirmed that there was a split between himself and co-owners Kim Green and Kevin Savoree. They will now own and operate the organization's promotional company, currently known as Andretti Green Promotions, while Micheal handles the racing end. Now that there has been a re-commitment to not only racing but winning at AGR Danica's ready to stay onboard.

Keselowski to Penske?

It looks as if Brad Keselowski will be leaving Hendrick Motorsports and JR Motorsports to take over the #12 car at Penske. Keselowski had wanted to stay in the Hendrick stable, but currently there is no room for another cup ride at Hendrick and it looks as if Dale Jr. will not be bringing his Nationwide team up to the cup level after all.

If this were true then that would make David Stremme a free agent for 2010.

Fuel Injection coming to NASCAR?

It's a distinct possibility as NASCAR officials have brought up the possibility for introduction as soon as 2010. There has been a long-held fear that fuel injection would better enable teams to cheat by altering the electronic boxes. However NASCAR officials are raising the possibility to car owners anyway. One of the teams that is involved on the research end is Hendrick Motorsports.

I'm actually rather excited for Brad. It was known for a while that whatever plans he had with Rick Hendrick would rely on Mark Martin leaving after this year. Now that he isn't leaving, Brad had to look elsewhere. Now i think it'll be funny to watch the #12 car have a rookie stripe since Ryan in 2003. (or will he have the stripe? I'm not sure). But the move to Penske makes me happy! The kid has tallent. Altho i would have rather seen him stick it out with Hendrick Motorsports because they gave him his start.

Brad Keselowski..... Driver of the #12 Penske Racing Dodge Charger.

And now another episode in the continuing saga of...

As the Wheel Turns

Danica racing in IRL and NASCAR next year

According to breaking news last night, Danica Patrick is going to be a busy girl in 2010 as she begins to make the transition over to stock cars.

From Jayski.com:

Quote:
Danica Patrick will "all but certainly" be in NASCAR in 2010, but won't give up Indy car racing and will limit next year's activity to the Nationwide Series and Trucks, according to a source very close to the situation. Tony Stewart is the "star candidate" to be her partner and mentor in NASCAR, the source said, adding that Patrick's recent visits to Stewart-Haas Racing were much more than social -- that she and Stewart were discussing a deal, and are close to one. The plan is for Patrick to run a significant number of Nationwide races, with additional seat time in Trucks and ARCA cars. Stewart took a similar transitional path to NASCAR in 1998, running a full Indy car schedule and also 22 Nationwide (then Busch) races. Patrick's likeliest first stock car race would be the ARCA event at Daytona during SpeedWeeks next February. Because Stewart's team has neither Nationwide cars nor trucks in its stable, a third partner will be brought into the mix, the source said -- possibly Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s JR Motorsports, or, more likely, Kevin Harvick Inc., which fields both Trucks and Nationwide cars. Patrick is close to signing a contract renewal with Andretti Green Racing for Indy cars, the source said, but it's not a done deal yet. Sponsorship is not considered an issue for America's top female driver, and the first car manufacturer to sign Patrick to a NASCAR deal would get a big boost in brand exposure.

This looks like the best option for Danica to make the leap into NASCAR, and yet still keep her IRL commitments. The JRM possibility makes the most sense since Brad Keselowski will be driving for Penske next year, and putting Danica in the #88 GoDaddy.com car works out since that is one of her main sponsors.

This sounds like the route that Tony Stewart took into NASCAR when he transitioned from Indy Cars. He was able to maintain a full schedule in Indy while learning the ins and outs of stock car racing. I know that some people will point to Dario Franchitti as a cautionary tale for her, but the main problem with Dario was sponsorship that Ganassi couldn't secure for him. Somehow I don't see Danica having that same problem.

Franchitti also made the leap directly to cup and sucked at it. The fact he didn't have sponsorship wasn't a factor at all. He didn't take his time to learn the ride like Montoya did. And look how well Juan is doing after 3 seasons in Cup! On the verge of making the chase.

Danica is doing it right. She's learning from Tony who took the same road to get where he is now. All Danica needs to do is not let the super egos of most of the drivers get to her. She has potential, i'll give her that. But i'm glad she isn't jumping directly into the cup series. That'd been bad. Smile

I think she is making the right move here. Smoke did the same thing and he is a 2 time champ. She can learn alot from Tony. I have never been a big fan of Smoke but he is one heck of a driver.

I think she could contend in a Nationwide race. Why? because if she goes with JR and drives the 88 car Keselowski has proven that the team can win and contend for a championship. Plus the Nationwide cars handle alot better then a cup car. Most good cars in the Nationwide series can run full throtle for about 10-15 laps depending on the track. She basicly runs full out in an Indy car.

Well I quess not only does Danica have the looks she has brains as well. And she is doing exactly what I said she should do. Minus the full-time Indy car series next year.

i'll cut her some slack as long as it doesn't involve a direct jump into a cup ride first year. Maybe she'll be the first woman to actually contend for a cup win a few years down the line. who knows? Smile

Petty merges with Yates, will race under Ford banner!!!

Wow, didn't see this one coming.

RPM has signed an agreement to join forces with Yates Racing in 2010 and race with Ford engines and chassis.

The new driver lineup will consist of Kasey Kahne, AJ Allmendinger, Elliott Sadler and Paul Menard. There is no word on what will happen with Reed Sorenson or Bobby LaBonte, or what numbers will be involved other than the 9, 19 and 43. The 44, 98, 96 and 26 teams are up in the air at this point as to which one is going to stick around. Jamie McMurray was originally thought to be going to Yates for 2010, but with this new merger it looks as if he is looking for a job along with Sorenson and LaBonte.

Some "SillySeason" rumors...

There are a few rumblings going arouind about who could end up where next year. Some of them include...

- Bobby LaBonte possibly heading to the #07 Jack Daniels car.
- Jamie McMurray possibly going to Earnhardt/Ganassi to drive the #1 car next year, but Bobby LaBonte's name has also been mentioned as a possible driver in that slot.
- Some former Yates employees are saying that they would prefer Jamie McMurray in the #19 car next year rather than Elliot Sadler.
- Richard Petty would like for A.J. Almindinger to drive the #43 car next year - if the sponsors are ok with it.

Jack Daniel's leaving RCR

Unfortunately it's true, JD will not be sponsoring the #07 car for RCR in 2010. Due to the current economic environment, spending priorities had to be re-evaluated over at Brown-Forman. One of the items that had to be cut was the NASCAR sponsorship. No word if there is a possibility of a return at a later date.

Jim Beam leaving the #7 in 2010

Beam Global Spirits & Wine, Inc., maker of Jim Beam Bourbon will not be renewing it's sponsorship agreement with Robby Gordon Motorsports in 2010.

Smoke hasn't made Danica an offer...yet

From Jayski.com:

Quote:
on Thursday's Dan Patrick Show, #14-Tony Stewart discussed the upcoming Chase for the Cup and the possibility he'll ask Danica Patrick to join his team next year. Here are some of his takes ...

-- Dan asked Stewart if he's going to hire Danica Patrick next season.

"I have not made her an offer," Stewart said. "The one thing I have done is spend some time talking to her." Stewart said that the two of them have evaluated how it would work. He thinks she should start in the Nationwide series instead of Sprint. But Stewart said they don't have a Truck Series of Nationwide Series team, so that might be a problem.

One of the rumored possibilities still has Danica going to JR Motorsports and taking the Nationwide ride recently vacated by Brad Keselowski. Also a possibility of driving for Keving Harvick in the Truck series still exists.

Sorenson is racing for free

Apparently Reed Sorenson is racing for Richard Petty Motorsports and not getting paid to do it. Here are the details from Jayski.com:

Quote:
When Richard Petty Motorsports announced last week a merger with Yates Racing, most considered #43-Reed Sorenson the big loser, since it appeared he was left out of the 2010 driver lineup as a result. He in fact wasn't. He was already gone by that point. Multiple RPM sources confirmed to ESPN.com that team executives approached Sorenson during the summer with a pair of options: (1) Race the remainder of the season for no salary; or (2) take a buyout and go away. Conflicted, frustrated, shocked and confused, Sorenson chose the former. In NASCAR, out of sight is out of mind. And out of mind is out of work. "The decision I made was to keep racing. The reason I did that is I thought it would help me find a job next year," Sorenson said. "And any race car driver that has the choice to sit at home or race is probably going to choose to race, unless they're at the end of their career. I'm 23 years old. I want to have a long future in the sport. I didn't figure sitting at home was a good option to do that." Sorenson would not divulge specifics of his agreement with RPM but did say he was never given a true reason for the development. "They didn't really have much justification for it," he said. "They basically just said, 'This is the deal we have, but you've done nothing wrong. We feel bad.' But it sucked. I don't really get it. It never made sense when it was going down, and it doesn't make sense now. I definitely didn't envision them coming to me halfway through this year and saying this. I felt like I was moving to a team where I could make a home and work with new teammates and maybe be there for five years or whatever it might be. I didn't even get halfway through the year, and this comes up. Then I was told I haven't done anything wrong at the same time. So that's the most sickening thing about it."

Sorenson's agent, Jeff Dickerson from Mooresville, N.C.-based Motorsports Management, also would neither confirm nor deny that Sorenson was given an ultimatum. He did agree, though, that when he speaks with other team owners and managers about Sorenson's future, the driver's level of desire to compete is often broached. "If people knew the sacrifices he has made to stay on the racetrack, they wouldn't ask that question anymore," Dickerson said. "He's been a great teammate both on and off the track. He stood up for the guys that work on these cars and their families and refuses to let that team be shut down. People think a guy that drafts with you is a good teammate. I think Reed rewrote that definition in this situation."

Asked for comment for this story, RPM spokesman Drew Brown wrote in an e-mail that "it wouldn't be fair to comment on internal matters relating to Reed's contract. I will say that all of us have had a blast with Reed this season and wish he could be part of us next season, but it's a numbers game." Sorenson will use the final 10 races of the season as an audition for 2010. There are few Sprint Cup rides available, so the hope for Sorenson is a part-time Cup program to supplement a full-time Nationwide ride. "If I have to run full-time Nationwide and part-time Cup to wait until the economy gets better and I get a good full-time ride again, then that would be the best-case scenario," he said. "I just want to race. I don't want to sit around and wait."

GoDaddy to sponsor Mark Martin thru 2011

GoDaddy.com has agreed to be the primary sponsor for Mark Martin's #5 Sprint Cup Car for 20 races in 2010 and 2011. "Mark Martin is the consummate professional and a very exciting driver, to say the least," said GoDaddy.com CEO and founder Bob Parsons. "He's the sentimental favorite for this year's Sprint Cup championship, and we're stoked to have him driving for Go Daddy next year." Additional sponsorship for the #5 Chevys will be announced at a later date.

I know I haven't posted anything in this thread for a while, but things have been crazy for me personally speaking and I haven't posted much at any site. But since things are starting to heat up a little in Silly Seasonland...

Danica to sign with Junior?

Apparently some final details are being hammered out that would put Danica Patrick in the #88 GoDaddy.com Nationwide Series car on a part-time basis starting next year. If it really happens then expect her to make her NASCAR debut next year during Daytona's Speedweeks.

There were other reports that she would actually make her debut in NASCAR when the circuit goes to Phoenix next week since the track is near her home. But Rick Hendrick said flat out that it wasn't going to happen.

Also therew have been rumors spreading in the garage area about Danica making outrageous slary demands to come to NASCAR. The latest was that she is asking $300,000 per race for the Nationwide and Truck Series. Sports Illustrated has been reporting that one according to Jayski, however there has been no addressing of that rumor.

Now about all of these rumors dealing with salary demands - you would think that the people starting them would have better things to do in the garage area then engage in a gossipfest - like get their cars ready to run in the Chase! I mean, where do they get this stuff, do they just pull it out of their ass at random?!? Does anybody really think that Danica is that much of a Prima Donna that she would ask for that kind of money and price herself out of the market? Come on people, she's smarter than that!

I personally dont think she would ask that much. If she was to run a full schedule asking that much she would make $10,500,000. And I dont think the is a driver in the garage area that makes even close to that number.

Now some other rumors going around:

EGR to Toyota???
Earnhardt-Ganassi may switch to Toyota. But seriously can anyone picture the name Earnhardt and Toyota. Rumor has it the Teresa is the one holding out weather or not to make the switch. RCR who supplies the engines for EGR wanted a call by Friday. The call never came. EGR officals are to might with Toyota Engine Department on Tuesday.

Also sticking with EGR. They may annouce who will drive the #1 car in 2010 soon. Chip Ganassi wants McMurray but Bass Pro Shops isnt sure he is a good fit. Bobby Labonte's name has also been thrown out there as a possible driver next year.

Buscher to drive #1 Nationwide Car
Nascar Camping World Series Truck Series driver James Buscher is set to make the move to the Nationwide Series in 2010. He will drive the Phoenix Racing #1 Miccosukee Chevy full-time in 2010. Buscher will also run 19 races for Turner Motorsports in the Truck Series.
